Tata Communications is taking the guesswork out of using videoconferencing with the latest version of its jamvee Unified Communications (UC) platform that allows enterprises and their partners to conduct sessions via any combination of audio, video or messaging and share content in groups on any fixed or mobile device or through a browser.
“It allows our customers or partners to take part in meetings in whatever form they want to–whether that’s audio, video, web, messaging–using the client of their choice,” said Anthony Bartolo, SVP, Unified Communications and Collaboration for Tata Communications, in an interview with FierceTelecom. “It has the widest interoperability of video conferencing that’s out there.”
Bartolo added that a customer could take any endpoint and “federate between the enterprise islands and just like you and I are conversing on an audio bridge, I don’t pay a second thought of what device you’re coming into the audio bridge.”
The new version of jamvee, which now includes an always-on collaborative workspace where virtual teams can meet, allows businesses to share documents and show video in real-time. It was developed in tandem with technology partners Acano and Synergy SKY.
Each of the jamvee rooms can also act as permanent “war-rooms” where users can be confident that their messages will always remain instantly available, safely secured within the platform.
Besides traditional video conferencing or Telepresence, participants joining virtual meetings from their enterprise soft clients can leverage jamvee’s suite of audio, video, chat and content sharing capabilities. Users can also join videoconferencing meetings through their Internet browser by downloading a plug-in solution. One of the problems with driving videoconferencing usage has been a lack of interoperability. By leveraging open APIs such as WebRTC, Tata said the new jamvee platform can interoperate with any existing enterprise-grade clients from top name vendors such as Cisco, Microsoft Lync (NASDAQ: MSFT) or Polycom. “The other thing we have done with the jamvee platform is open up a set of APIs that allow enterprises to either develop a client or integrate into the communications platform of choice they have in their own enterprise,” Bartolo said. “We do that and allow them to build their own experience.” Unlike traditional videoconferencing platforms that require businesses to stick to a schedule, they can now conduct sessions at any time. “I call what we’re doing the democratization of videoconferencing because it’s not just up there for the C-Level suite,” Bartolo said. “What we are seeing is video is growing at a 16 percent CAGR 2013-2017 and within that number we’re seeing the private non-scheduled meetings increase.”
